Life In Oregon

Being in Oregon has been an interesting experience. I have spent a week here now and excitingly, it has only rained once since I got here. Life is very different out here on the West Coast. The people are a lot different. Everything is a little bit more peaceful than out East. Time is kind of important, but not really. I know a few people that would go crazy if they had to deal with that. The weather is great. Being outdoors is a must. I spent a few days on the coast with the chapter that I am visiting and we had a great time. I would have been happier if I had not climed the hill that eventually left my legs in pain. I guess that goes to show that I need to get in shape.

The most rewarding part of my job came this past week in being out here. It is really nice when you can come somewhere and offer help to those who you can tell want your help. We have had a great time doing work and playing. My grand moment in Corvallis, Oregon was the opening of the first Qdoba in Oregon. It is two blocks away from the chapter house.

The house looks like we should be next door to the Brady Bunch. I will post a picture here before I leave so you can see what I mean.

I am starting to miss home a lot. Not necessarily getting homesick, but I miss my bed and the really mean people that I encounter in Indiana. When you visit the University of Oregon in Eugene, you kind of feel like you've once again stepped back into the 70's. I think this is my second 70's experience, and I have only been to seven schools thus far. I also miss having a real place to call home to go back to. Thankfully, I am here for two weeks. When I go to Eugene, Oregon, I just go for the day. It is only an hour drive and is worth the hour drive to come back here.

Anyhow, everything is going well. I am tired and worn out...but I will make it. I am off to Seattle this weekend to visit the University of Washington. I will write again soon.

On the road to Iowa

this is an audio post - click to play
It is almost three o'clock in the morning and my work day is in some ways just ending. However, I guess I wouldn't say that I've really been working...or at least I don't feel like I have. I have been here in Beloit, Wisconsin since Sunday afternoon and this is my first opportunity to access the internet to post something here.

When I was told that I would learn a lot while on the job, I knew I would, but I guess I didn't think I would learn so much so soon. I am leaving tomorrow and to be totally honest, I wouldn't mind staying here to help out for another month. Beloit College is a small school of about 1800 students and the school has its very own way of operating. Beloit is very liberal and very free spirited.

I have had an opportunity to meet people that have really put a smile on my face and I enjoy that. I think I will write more later when I am not so tired.
