Home For the Holidays (Part 1)

Home for the first time since August 15. I can honestly say it was nice to once again drive the streets of Columbus, Ohio. It was really nice to see my family and the dog as well. Being home was an awesome time to relax. We had a family gathering at our house for Thanksgiving, so I got to see my family. The most interesting part of my trip home was my 5 year high school reunion. It was the first time that I had seen most of them since June of 1999 when I graduated. It was a lot of fun and for just a few minutes, I felt like I was back in high school again.

On a Personal Note...

Travels have been fun and the experience keeps getting better. However, this is the first time that I've really had an urge to make a post on a more personal level. I've done a lot of pictures and voice posts, but not really typed very much. I am at the point now where I can truly say I've gained from this job something I don't think you can get anywhere else.

I've been traveling for a little more than two months now. I have driven 10,500 miles and seen practically all of the Western United States in the process. That is great, but not as wonderful as the people that I have encountered. I think I managed over the span of a year to forget what it was like to be in college. I also managed to forget about how difficult things were for me during my sophomore and junior years. I spent much of that time trying to figure out what was going on in my life and what direction I wanted to go. Over the past few months, I've been reminded of that experience.

Since I started traveling, helping the chapters has been a lot of fun. I have had the opportunity to give advice to several members. However, it does not compare to those who I've had an opportunity to sit down and talk with about other things that have nothing to do with being part of Phi Psi. I have enjoyed lending an ear for some guys to talk to and understand how much some people enjoy that.

College can be a very difficult time. For many of us, it is the first time in our lives that we are on our own, and we have an opportunity to discover who we are and what it is that makes us happy in life. The way that people go about doing that can vary. People have told me things that they don't want to share with anyone else, while others have told me things that they wish no one else knew.

I know that the road that some of us walk can be long and narrow with no hope of getting away from it. For many, we would give anything to be able to explore a little bit more....or at least see the light at the end of the road we are currently traveling. For me, it took that realization that no one can live my life for me except me. I can spend every day trying to make someone else happy, but it does me no good if I am not happy too.

On another note, I want to thank Matt Griffey for following my travels. This small blurb that I am putting here can't fully express how much I appreciate your support. Thanks to everyone else that takes the time to read as well. As I have said many times before, that's it for now and I will post again soon.
